I founded Billable Hub, an invoicing, time tracking, expense, and workflow automation platform for small businesses and professional service teams. I created the product end to end, from idea to architecture and application development to product design and go-to-market work.

• Built on Vercel with Neon, Clerk, and Stripe.
• Owned infrastructure, authentication, billing, security, and email delivery.

Technical leadership in oncology telehealth.

Designed and developed an oncology-focused telehealth application, owning the technology stack.

• Led product demos as part of the investor pitches.
• The pitches were well received, though prospective investors remained unconvinced that telehealth would deliver a return on investment. Unfortunately for all of us, we shut down early-2019, right before telehealth would take off.

From the initial team through acquisition.

I helped build an email security platform from early stage with 4 developers through growth to more than 70 employees and acquisition. Including full-stack development for mail analysis and the infrastructure behind high-volume message processing.

• Administered databases larger than 160 TB.
• Carried out multiple live migrations while the platform actively processed millions of documents per day.
• Integrated message queueing, frontend development, and work across Python, Next.js, React, and Spring Boot.

From idea to 13 years in production.

I took the company from idea to working software, designing and building the vehicle management application and its production infrastructure from the ground up. Based on Parse Server, Heroku, AWS, Unity 3D, and MongoDB.

• I chose Unity 3D for smooth animation, responsive screens, and precise control over custom widgets for the guard experience.
• The Unity3D app ran in production for 13 years with little maintenance before being retired for a modern React replacement.

Software beyond the browser.

I built high-speed FLIR computer vision trackers for flight simulators, and a U.S. trademark search, analysis, and identification system.

• Developed tracking software in Python and C++ using OpenCV for Linux and Windows-based real-time systems.
• Built ground control station software for UAV command and control, including operator displays, on an embedded real-time operating system.
• Developed Xilinx-based embedded operating systems and applications for UAV datalink and avionics equipment.

Recovery work across software and hardware.

During the early years of our relationship, I periodically helped with various development efforts and maintenance. I more recently stepped in to help with an over-budget, over-engineered development effort, where complex Bluetooth issues were contributing to poor customer reviews. I guided the development team in an effort to focus on the Bluetooth bugs and drive toward a finalization plan for the remaining work.

• Worked across Android applications, NestJS, Parse Server, and Kubernetes.
• Created Figma designs for the product interface.
• Developed embedded software on a hardened controller to process Bluetooth lock commands for locker arrays.
• Guided an offshore development team and helped tackle Bluetooth reliability and roadmap restructuring.

From concept to a complete monitoring platform.

I took the company from concept to working software, building the full cloud infrastructure, backend monitoring application, alerting system, and user dashboard from the ground up. The system tracked water pH, temperatures, and pressures in commercial boilers, and visually compared water and chemical usage with industry standards to showcase technology designed to reduce scale buildup.

• Built with AWS AppSync (GraphQL), DynamoDB, Cognito for authentication, Amplify, and React.
• Integrated iMonnit sensor data for monitoring and alerting.

Supporting the people behind the work.

Early in my career, I managed IT for a 15-person office at a company specializing in environmental site assessments and groundwater remediation.

Engineering at the signal level.

After graduating with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, I began my career working on receiver sensitivity and signal conditioning for an OC-48 fiber-optic modulation board. That initial move into telecommunications was cut short by the telecom bust in 2000. After this, I moved into embedded software, and eventually to frontend and backend software.
